Before you enter the job market, take a minute!

You may have just returned from your long-awaited Summer holiday, that time relaxing having allowed you to formulate your thoughts. A new job may be the answer. But before you start the process I would challenge you to think about these three important items.

You may have just returned from your long-awaited Summer holiday, that time relaxing having allowed you to formulate your thoughts on how you can improve your life.

A new job may well be the answer. But before you start the process I would challenge you to think about these three important items.

1 – What is it about your current employment that you are dissatisfied with?

The main reasons for professionals leaving a position are:

  1. Lack of Career Growth or Advancement
  2. Inadequate Compensation or Benefits
  3. Poor Management or Leadership
  4. Burnout and Work-Life Imbalance
  5. Company Culture or Values not lived
  6. Better Opportunities Elsewhere
  7. Life Changes or Personal Reasons

2 – Is your current employer aware of your dissatisfaction?

Have you articulated your concerns in a clear and factual manner to a member of the senior team?

3 – Have you done all you can in order to help fix the issues you have identified?

This is a real soul searching question.  Only you know the true answer.

After asking yourself these questions, you will know whether or not it is time to move on.

It may seem strange for a Recruiter to be passing on this advice, but I am sure that all experienced and professional recruiters would agree.  If its not broken then don’t fix it, but if it is broken why not try?

It will be much easier to make the move you seek, if you know you have done everything you can.
