How to Handle: ‘What are you doing for work these days?’ Over Christmas.
10 December 2020 by Justin Rush
Christmas is just around the corner. Along with that comes the dreaded questions from that slightly judgy aunt or that highly successful cousin who you only see a couple of times a year, but without fail… ask you the same questions every time.
The festive season is a time to be merry, surrounded by your nearest and dearest, with amazing food and drink! There’s no reason why your job search should interfere with any of that.
Here’s some proactive tips on your next steps.
1. Let a recruiter do the work for you
Recruitment Agencies, like Abacus Careers, can help take the stress out of job hunting over the Christmas period. We have fantastic relationships with our clients and know our current opportunities inside out. Rather than placing quick wins, (which may not work out in the long run), we focus on a candidate’s career and aspirations in order to match them up with the perfect opportunity. Our Feefo reviews back this up!
2. Stay Positive
Don’t Focus on the negatives; You’re still stuck in the same old job, another year without a promotion or pay rise.
Instead, tell them about the opportunities you’re excited about. Focus on your wins like having a great interview, meeting with an experienced recruitment consultant and how they’re helping you find a great position that’s relevant to your experience and career goals!
It’ll make you feel uplifted, and a bit more jolly.
3. Get ahead, don’t give up in December, start in December!
If you’re considering a career move in the New Year, you’re not the only one. It’s smart to get ahead of the gang of ‘New Year, New Me-ers’ and begin your job hunt in December. You’ll want to be applying and interviewing in December ready to start your new role in the New Year! Or at least be the first in line.
On bahalf of everyone at Abacus Careers, have a very Merry Christmas, and we hope to help take the stress out of your festive job hunting soon!
