08 August, 2023The IT Infrastructure Engineer for Systems plays a pivotal role within my clients dedicated team responsible for the maintenance and management of our global core system hardware and software. This critical function ensures the seamless operation of their systems, catering to the 24/7 demands of their valued employees and clients. When systems incidents arise, the Engineer swiftly identifies, troubleshoots, and resolves issues with a sense of urgency. While primarily focused on supporting US/UK operations, the Engineer also lends expertise to international operations.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Swiftly address any systems incidents during business hours, prioritizing seamless resolution.
- Provide timely responses to requests related to provisioning, troubleshooting, escalation, and other system-related queries.
- Execute maintenance and upgrade tasks outside of regular hours as required.
- Contribute to the on-call rotation for incidents occurring beyond standard hours.
- Document and communicate root causes of incidents to prevent recurrence.
- Collaborate with the team to undertake projects aimed at sustaining system functionality, ensuring legal and compliance adherence, meeting business demands, and fulfilling additional requirements.
Beneficial/Desirable:
- Financial services industry experience.
- Essential Systems Knowledge:
- Proficiency in Windows computing environments (Windows Server 2008R2 – 2019).
- Expertise in Microsoft technologies (Active Directory, Group Policy, IIS, Microsoft 365, Exchange/Exchange Online, File Sharing, Azure AD, Intune).
- Familiarity with VMWare environments (vSphere 6.7 – 7.0).
- Knowledge of storage, backup, and replication technologies (Pure, Dell EMC Unity, S3, Glacier, Rubrik, Zerto).
- Experience with Linux systems.
- Understanding of Citrix Infrastructure.
- Competence in computer hardware (servers, storage, backup systems).
- Strong grasp of TCP/IP Networking and information security.
- Proficiency in MS PowerShell.
Beneficial/Desirable:
- Cloud environment experience (AWS, Azure).
- Familiarity with financial industry platforms (Fidessa, BBG, etc.).
- Knowledge of enterprise monitoring platforms and tools.
- Experience with ServiceNow, JIRA, or other ITIL tools.
- Proficiency in other scripting languages and automation tools technologies (Autosys, Sumo, Orchestrator).

- During non-incident periods, the Engineer and team will actively engage in projects focused on system maintenance, legal and compliance obligations, business needs, and other essential aspects.
- Strategically identify, plan, gain approval for, and implement enhancements in infrastructure systems to elevate stability, expedite failover processes, enhance compliance, and streamline operations overall.
- Pursue continuous learning opportunities in technologies both within and beyond the organization, advocating for the integration of beneficial external technologies.
- Travel:
- Occasional local travel to the datacenter and potentially other locations within the UK.
Qualifications:
- Essential Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in a technology or related field, recognized professional qualification, or equivalent experience.
- Over 5 years of IT experience in a fast-paced environment, preferably within mid-sized financial services or professional services organizations.
- Proficiency in rapidly resolving critical business issues while possessing extensive knowledge of systems hardware and software, encompassing servers, storage, backups, messaging, remote access, and security.
- Demonstrated ability to manage incidents professionally, calmly, and effectively, minimizing impact and ensuring stakeholder communication.
- Proactive problem-solving and task prioritization skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail and strong communication capabilities.
- Proven team player mindset, dedicated to collective success.
- Robust support and client management abilities.
