Role Purpose

We currently have three BD Assistant roles supporting different practice areas and offices across the globe. Each role involves providing day-to-day support on a variety of marketing and business development projects: winning new business (helping to produce effective client-facing documents), growing key client and sectoral relationships, and raising the profile of the practice and its partners.

Role and Responsibilities

The role will require someone who is highly organised and efficient, who enjoys a fast-paced work environment, dealing with a variety of work and the completion of tasks.

  • (Assist in) collating information for, and delivering, first drafts of credentials statements, proposals (baseline documents for matter pitches, panel pitches, practice-related input for other pitches); brochures, placemats, and contact cards; client presentations; submissions for legal directories (UK and Global); and internal newsletters/updates
  • (Assist in) collating information for, and delivering first drafts of, client relationship documentation and reports including key account management (information) reports
  • Assisting with research requests for client BD and pitch meetings, conferences and marketing trips, and business planning exercises – eg organising and assisting with collating client/market research and financials
  • Assisting with internal and external events, including preparing mailing lists, invitations and supporting materials, and assisting with event logistics
  • Managing website content, including liaising with the Digital team to upload publications and news items, and assisting in organising related social media posts
  • Assisting with the formatting of client facing materials including, where appropriate, liaising with the Creative Services team
  • Maintaining and updating key experience and case statistics databases, to support BD activity
  • Assisting with the maintenance of various marketing systems including the global experience, proposals and contacts databases and collateral module
  • Supporting the BD Manager and other BD team members, and the Practice Manager, with BD and marketing initiatives and other inputs as required

Key requirements

The role would ideally suit someone with some professional services BD experience. This is an excellent opportunity to develop marketing and BD experience within the legal environment. The ideal candidate will be ambitious and possess the following attributes and skills:

  • Strong time management skills
  • Ability to multitask (especially urgent requests) and work well under pressure
  • Strong writing skills, including the ability to tailor written work product to different audiences
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Enthusiastic, pro-active, robust, with a commitment to getting the job done
  • A hunger to learn and take on all tasks that will aid in learning, including keeping up to date (with appropriate guidance) with legal and commercial developments relevant to the practice area and sectors
  • Good humoured, willing and a positive outlook
  • Strong client focus
  • Sophisticated communication skills and interpersonal skills

Qualifications

Essential

  • Graduate, with an interest in further professional qualifications (CIM or business qualification)
  • Previous experience working within an office, preferably in the professional services environment
  • Excel, PowerPoint and Word skills

Desirable

  • Strong research skills would be advantageous
  • Personal attributes and skills – sharp mind, eye for detail, ability to manage priorities and to seek assistance where necessary
  • Knowledge of, and/or interest in learning about practice group that the role supports
