Our client has appointed Abacus to identify an enthusiastic Head Of Business Development to strategically drive business growth at a national and international level.

This company is a leader in the area of digital design and transformation. It works with global companies, large public bodies, local government and many more. This is a new role for this fast-growing company and the appointed person will offer a pivotal role to support future growth and direction. You will be part of a high-calibre and ambitious business, join a quality-driven and creative team and build on the excellent bid / tender assets and case studies.

Role Overview:

As a Head of Business Development, you will play a pivotal role in identifying and developing commercial opportunities for our user experience, service, and strategy design teams. Working closely with the Directors to strategically map business growth in NI, ROI and beyond. A growth vision has been created but you will also have autonomy to generate revenue to align with short- and long-term growth ambition.     

The design and digital teams will also continue to grow, and you must therefore be adaptable to work within a highly creative team environment. Collaboration, design, and innovation is key.

Key Responsibilities:

Collaborate with Directors to shape and qualify new leads, initiate communication with potential clients, and gather market intelligence.

Lead the strategy in pursuit of opportunities, assembling the right resources and ensuring the best representation of the organisation in new business conversations.

Produce compelling project proposals, presentations, and meetings that address client needs and articulate the fundamental design challenge and opportunity.

Steer the business development process, keeping track of leads, progress, and outcomes, and providing periodic learnings to improve the BD process.

Provide structure for individuals involved in business development, ensuring collaboration and accountability.

Drive and expand meaningful relationships with existing clients and explore opportunities to create new, long-term relationships.

Explore opportunities to open up new markets, sectors, or focuses aligning with our business strategy.

Collaborate with diverse teams, including UX designers, service designers, research specialists, and strategists.


Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in a revenue or relationship-focused role.

Knowledgeable about digital health, digital transformation, or related business areas is an advantage.

Ability to bridge digital design services to client needs.

Strategic and systems thinker.

Resourceful, resilient, self-directed, and proactive.

Strong communicator with attention to detail.

Curious to learn and connect the dots.

Comfortable operating with limited oversight/management.
