Design Engineer (County Tyrone)

Abacus is hiring a Design Engineer for a world-class company in County Tyrone.

The Design Engineer will be responsible for the design and development of this new exciting range of modular recycling equipment. 

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide engineered solutions for the development of new products and modifications to existing products.
  • Follow Group standards of in the areas of QFD, FMEA, design-for-manufacture, prototype development and field testing
  • Follow Group engineering standards and associated IT systems, to ensure effective global management of released engineering data
  • Ensure current and new products meet standards and performance levels specified for safety, function and reliability
  • Support distributors through the preparation of sales layouts, specifications and project pricing, including site visits/surveys and gathering application data
  • Reduce manufacturing cost through improved design and consultation with the production department, purchasing and suppliers.
  • To investigate and address Customer Complaints in a timely manner.
  • Stay knowledgeable of machine component advancements and competitor design trends; apply latest technology to new and existing designs where appropriate to stay current and innovative.

Experience & Qualifications:

  • Degree educated or equivalent in Engineering, ideally with design experience in this or a similar industry
  • Competent user of 3D Solid Modeling CAD, ideally CREO, and familiarity with Product Data Management (PDM) systems
  • Good technical expertise in mechanical and electrical systems
  • A good understanding of the various applications that the equipment can operate in along with an appreciation for the expected performance of the machines.
  • Creativity and innovative thinking
  • Good English communication skill, both written and spoken

  • A “Can do” attitude and ability to interact with a multi-functional team.
  • Ability to work with others to meet deadlines.
  • Able to assess workload and commit to realistic timelines.
  • Able to select from multiple design alternatives when a clear best choice is not evident.
  • Can identify risks both technical and commercial with proposed product change or new product
