The Abacus Group are assisting our global professional services client as they seek to recruit a Document Checker to join their team on a full time, permanent basis.

Please note, this is a night shift position and the hours of work will be Sunday to Wednesday, 22:30 to 09:00.

You will be joining a busy, high functioning team as they provide a timely and high quality document checking, copy editing and proofreading service in accordance with the needs of the department’s clients. The successful candidate must be able to showcase an exceptional eye for detail and excellent organisational skills.

The Role:

  • To proofread a wide range of documents for spelling, sense and grammar in accordance with house style guides or bespoke client requirements, ensuring the highest standard of documentation
  • To carry out other checking tasks, both ad hoc and as part of standard departmental practice, to ensure that the quality of documentation is in line with the expectations of the firm
  • To take instruction from the department’s clients, clarifying queries as appropriate, following the required administrative and technical procedures
  • To provide advice for clients with regard to the use of English language or house style issues and editing documents to improve readability if requested
  • To provide guidance to other Document Centre teams on styles and use of the English language
  • To keep personal workload under active review and to advise colleagues responsible for workflow, the department’s clients or Supervisor immediately of any potential issues
  • To effectively utilise CRM system to manage personal workload, adding updates and pertinent information in real time to facilitate smooth execution/handover on ongoing projects
  • To be flexible with regard to work location and working hours. It may sometimes be a requirement to work in the London office for special projects and meetings. Although training will be provided on shift whenever possible, it may sometimes be necessary to attend certain training courses off shift
  • To be flexible in undertaking these duties and any other duties as required

The Person:

  • Legal, financial or similar professional proofreading services experience preferred
  • Experience of working on complex technical documents
  • Eye for detail and computer literacy
  • Thorough understanding of working in a deadline-driven environment, ideally 24/7
  • Excellent oral and written communication
  • Excellent client service skills
  • Proven organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise and manage own workload
