Abacus Careers are pleased to be recruiting for an Economist on behalf of one of the largest banks in Northern Ireland. As an Economist, you will support the preparation of the Bank’s external economic analysis and conduct internal economic analysis to inform the Bank’s management team and staff on economic and related matters.
You will be joining a leader in NI who are driving sustainability in business, from being on track to having all their branches fossil fuel free by the end of the year, to being carbon neutral in operations since 2009. Our client was awarded the 2021 Environmental Leadership award due to their support to local businesses on education around sustainability.

Role:
- To undertake economic analysis and work with third parties, under the guidance of the Chief Economist & Head of Strategy, to assist with the preparation of external economic publications including the Bank’s Northern Ireland Quarterly Sectoral Forecasts and Consumer Confidence Index reports.
- To generate and communicate relevant economic data, forecasts and scenarios for use internally to inform the Bank’s strategy, risk appetite and commercial and risk management discussions & decisions.
- To undertake high quality economic monitoring and reporting and to be aware of relevant economic and policy developments.
- To act as an internal economic consultant to colleagues within Bank, supporting and facilitating their work.
- To represent Bank at external meetings and seminars as required and act as a positive ambassador at all times.
- To act as a point of contact for Bank economists, providing regular economic data on the UK and Northern Ireland to the Bank.
Requirements:
- Degree in Economics or a subject that included a significant element of Economics
- Professional experience as an Economist in the private, public or third sector
- Strong presentation skills with the demonstrated ability to translate technical concepts into meaningful messages for relevant audiences
- Experience of drafting economics papers and reports
- Experience of working to tight deadlines whilst under pressure
