Our client is a global firm who have been steadily growing within the NI market for over 10 years. Their operation has gone from strength to strength with over 400 staff in their Belfast office. Their litigation function is one of their largest practice areas and with two roles available, this is a fantastic opportunity for any litigation professionals to develop their career.

Role purpose

We are interested in hearing from Litigation and Disputes candidates to join the Litigation Practice Group in Belfast at Junior Associate or Associate level. Having developed the right level of legal experience you will lead a growing team of Legal Professionals to work with offices across the global network on client matters supporting multiple practice groups. This role will involve a high level of interaction with counterparts in other offices to enable them to operate as fully integrated members of matter teams. In the early stages of engagements this will include scoping and planning work and monitoring capacity. Junior Associates and Associates are expected to be able to work independently, lead a team and be the first line of support for Legal Professionals and Senior Associates.

Role and responsibilities

  • Lead growing teams of Legal Professionals to work with instructing offices on client matters.
  • Work closely with Partners and instructing teams to define and deliver legal services projects and services.
  • Establish and maintain the highest standards for quality, efficiency, and service including quality controlling the work of more junior members of the team.
  • Manage and report on progress and liaise with internal and external clients to address points of relevance or concern and resolving queries and issues.
  • Provide legal expertise, including drafting, reviewing, and amending documentation, document management, legal research, maintaining and improving templates and precedents.
  • Identify and develop innovative solutions supporting strategic firm practice groups and clients.
  • As required, participate in business development and client pitches, pricing decisions, and client service discussions, including direct interaction with key client and instructing team stakeholders.
  • Establishing workstreams including actively generating work for others. 
  • Mentor, develop and train Legal Professionals and junior team members.

Key requirements

Qualified solicitor or barrister with experience working within a Litigation or Disputes environment. 

Experience leading and co-ordinating complex multi-faceted matters, including multi-jurisdictional matters large teams on large matters on international projects.

Experience of managing teams and supervising junior lawyers and/or trainees.

Commercially astute and deep expertise in either international transactional or disputes law, or alternatively very senior generalist legal experience.

A professional manner, with high levels of integrity, resilience, and diplomacy.

Flexible, resourceful, and prepared to take a hands-on-approach, comfortable operating in what is essentially a rapidly evolving new business and interested in identifying and shaping that evolution.

Proven ability to take ownership of own work.

Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.

Strong relationship-building skills – a team player with the ability to establish credibility and inspire confidence with clients and senior colleagues.
