We are currently seeking a Business Unit Director to join our client’s well-established team of professionals in the legal industry. In this role, you will have the opportunity to lead and develop a high-performing team to their maximum potential, driving a culture of continuous improvement and embedding a commercial mindset.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Ensure the team has appropriate processes in place to meet internal and external client requirements and benchmarks, including compliance with quality management procedures.
  • Establish and maintain an effective people structure within the team and liaise with senior stakeholders to discuss capacity and structural changes.
  • Develop a culture of high performance within the team through agreed objectives, KPIs, and performance progression plans.
  • Promote a commercial culture around management information, time recording, billing, and proforma turnaround.
  • Implement a comprehensive and effective training, development, and supervision program to support induction and progression.
  • Manage complaints and handle issues in accordance with the firm’s internal procedures.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders to gain regular feedback on quality of service and resolve challenges quickly.
  • Provide and analyze accurate and timely management information to clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Regularly review processes and practices to drive continuous improvement.
  • Implement a consistent and effective structure of communication across the team.
  • Ensure each team member has a Personal Development Plan in place.
  • Create a high level of morale and celebrate success.
  • Act as a role model for the firm’s shared values.

Essential Criteria:

  • Proven track record in people leadership.
  • Experience interacting with key stakeholders at all levels through various communication methods.
  • Previous defendant/claimant insurance litigation experience.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Effective communicator with the ability to provide key business updates and communications.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize workload and set clear expectations and objectives.
  • Understanding of client objectives and metrics.
  • Ability to look for new ways of working to improve quality and performance.
  • Objective in reviewing and managing team performance.
  • Displays role model behavior in accordance with the firm’s values.
  • Ability to lead, support, and explain reasons for change.
  • Ability to coach and develop others, review performance, and provide feedback.
