Payroll Manager

Abacus Careers are delighted to be working with one of our Belfast city centre clients as they seek to add a payroll manager to their team.

Role and Responsibilities;

  • Completion of the monthly overtime and standby download
  • Responsible for finalising the Errors and Exceptions report
  • Reviewing and authorising the monthly payroll calculation prior to sign-off
  • Responsible for the preparation of the files for the release of the BACS payments
  • Ensuring PAYE/NIC payments made on a timely basis to HMRC
  • Responsible for reconciliation of the monthly payroll control accounts
  • Responsible for ensuring all year end returns are submitted on time to HMRC i.e. P14/P35/P11D
  • Issuing P60 certificates and P11D memos to employees on time
  • Dealing with HMRC payroll notices, audits and investigations, plus reconciliation of any apparent under- or over-payment of PAYE and NICs to HMRC
  • Producing monthly overtime reports and other ad-hoc reports
  • Ensuring that payroll processes are compliant with current legislation and HMRC procedure; planning and implementing amendments to systems and processes to ensure continued compliance with respect to forthcoming changes to legislation and procedure
  • Working with the HR community to ensure that payroll is delivered effectively and efficiently;
  • Coaching of the HR Advice team on payroll related matters in order for them to provide 1st line advice to employees that is accurate and timely
  • Reviewing procedures and processes to ensure efficiency and relevance – payroll and reward
  • Working with the Global Mobility team and identifying and implementing procedures to ensure compliance with domestic and foreign tax legislation
  • Managing the day to day performance of the payroll team members – ensuring appropriate training is provided for them to fulfil and develop in their roles
  • Holding annual appraisal meetings for the payroll team members as well as contributing to the annual appraisal for the Reward Specialist
  • Responsible for staffing and recruitment when necessary
  • Involvement in ad-hoc projects, for example, communications / related updates on the intranet; developing payroll procedures and reporting to reflect the changing requirements of the organisation

The successful candidate will have;

  • A minimum 5 years payroll management experience and proven track at this level of payroll management
  • A recognised professional qualification in payroll management
  • Experience of managing complex payrolls in excess of 2,000 people
  • Up to date legislative knowledge of payroll, pensions auto-enrolment and Real Time Information (RTI) submissions
  • Experienced line management skills and able to lead staff to excellent performance standards
  • Pro-active with excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Highly numerate – proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (Excel & Word)
  • Highly organised with good time management skills
