Senior Infrastructure Engineer

Abacus are delighted to be working on a Senior Infrastructure Engineer role with a leading retailer with offices across the UK.

The successful Infrastructure Engineer will join the IT team at an exciting time. Working collaboratively with others you’ll be involved in driving forward the business through digital transformation and the use of digital technologies.

Key Responsibilities:

• Implementing and managing all IT infrastructure in accordance with IT guidelines and standards.
• Resolving a diverse range of problems that spans across multiple technology domains. 
• Driving technical projects with efficiency, quality, and impact.
• Seeking areas of improvement for processes, technologies, and tools that provides business outcomes in terms of better security, higher productivity, or cost effectiveness. 
• Monitoring infrastructure health – both local and cloud based.
• Troubleshooting and fixing infrastructure and application issues. 
• Applying security best practices in current processes to address identified issues in threat models, and keeping systems and applications updated with latest software patching. 
• Supporting the achievement of company and department objectives. 
• Educating teams on the use of cloud applications and services.

Essential Criteria:

• BSc in Computer Science, Information Technology or related subject(s)
• 5+ years’ experience in an IT infrastructure role 
• Networking experience in one or more of the following: Cisco, Palo Alto, Juniper, Unifi including switching, routers, firewall administration, wifi etc…
• Security experience including areas such as MFA, OS hardening, firewall config, password less Authenticators.
• Have knowledge of SaaS.
• Server and Desktop Virtualisation (Hyper-V or VMware) 
• Strong experience managing Microsoft infrastructure (Exchange, Office 365, Sharepoint, Teams, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, SQL, Teams voice).
• Solid understanding of cloud environments – administration, security, storage, compute – (Azure, AWS).
• Good communication skills and the ability to communicate appropriately with senior management and teams. 
• Driven; willing to learn and keep skills current. 
• Able to present technical ideas and terms to a non-technical audience.
