Why we all love Denzel…

“Show me a successful individual and I’ll show you someone who had real positive influences in his or her life. I don’t care what you do for a living—if you do it well I’m sure there was someone cheering you on or showing the way. A mentor.” — Denzel Washington
At Abacus we have been adding new members to our team for the last 18 months, people new to the world of recruitment. Mentoring is absolutely at the centre of our strategy to develop and nuture our talented people.
“I found my mentor meetings with Colin to be very helpful. At times when you are constantly sourcing for a role, you come across the same people, and it can get tough. He helped me with Linkedin sourcing and showed me different filters you can adjust, resulting in new people coming up in the search. Even the advice he has given me has helped me through the difficult times, which has made a huge difference in how I now look at things that would’ve bothered me before.”
“My mentor was Justin and it was around Business Development. I always love any sort of training / mentoring session with Justin as he is an expert in what he does and is brilliant at simplifying things to make them sound easy. This is something I can sometimes struggle with because of my tendency to over-think.”
“I was working with my mentor Andy over the month on September where we spent time sharpening up on my Linked In sourcing, this was quite a foreign process to me at the beginning which made it quite daunting. We spent time getting to grips with the basics and then worked through each process thoroughly – which meant that confidence was built up with every session we had. It allowed me to be able to comfortably do this autonomously and has proved to be a key feature of my day to day.”
We have seen great success with our mentor programme and plan to have this at the forefront our of people strategy going forward.
