AML / CDD Specialist

Abacus Careers are pleased to be recruiting for an AML/ CDD Specialist on behalf of a global alternative investment firm for their Belfast office. This role has come around due to continued growth after the successful acquisition of several investment banking businesses across Europe.

This is a senior role within the team so my client is looking for leading AML/ KYC/ CDD individuals who have experience of checking complex files, you will also have experience of communication with shareholders.

Key Duties

  • Oversight of the on-boarding and refresh process from end to end in relation to financial crime mitigation and control.
  • Reviewing and approving client account files at all risk levels prepared by other team members at both onboarding and refresh.
  • Identifying gaps in CDD file documentation and ensuring this is gathered.
  • Ensuring that each client file has an accurate risk ranking.
  • Ensuring that client file records are maintained accurately and completely.
  • Preparing Client Escalations Forms for high-risk clients.
  • Providing guidance to team members on completing the CDD process and the necessary information and documentation to obtain.
  • Managing relevant CDD registers including the counterparty database, the client parties database and the CDD refresh timetable.
  • Managing the CDD refresh process to ensure that files are reviewed on a timely basis.
  • Undertaking daily ongoing screening for adverse media, PEPs and sanctions.
  • Providing accurate and regular management information on CDD approvals and refresh.
  • Escalating concerns and suspicions arising during the course of the CDD process to the MLRO.
  • Undertaking certain financial crime monitoring and surveillance tasks as necessary.
  • Responsible for performing Communicate regularly with managers, salespeople, and other designated contacts within the organisation.

The successful candidate will have:

  • A relevant university degree in finance, economics, or related discipline, or recognised professional or equivalent qualification.
  • 3+ years’ experience in CDD processes and controls including review of accounts at all risk levels, for example, complex organisation structures, hedge funds, trusts, SPVs and partnership.
  • AML Trade Surveillance Experience
  • Working knowledge of:
  • Relevant UK legislation and regulations
  • BSA/AML Regulation, OFAC and USA Patriot Act of 2001;
  • CIP, KYC and client onboarding documentation.
    • Individual must be dependable, responsible, motivated and demonstrate the ability to be successful with minimal supervision.
    • Demonstrated ability to succeed during challenging circumstances, including strict deadlines and technical issues and maintain composure under pressure.
    • Candidate must possess strong customer relationship skills.
    • Experience of communicating and providing key metrics to senior management.
    • Ability to update policies and procedures.
    • Must possess problem solving ability, strong computer and communication skills.
