06 December, 2022Abacus are working exclusively with Ogletree Deakins to recruit a Research Assistant. Ogletree Deakins is one of the largest labour, employment and immigration law firms in the US and is a top 100 global law firm. There is a team +2300 staff in 53 offices throughout the US, Europe, Canada, and Mexico.
The position will work closely with the U.S. Research Services team, which is comprised of a Senior Manager of Research Services, Research Supervisor, Research & Knowledge Analysts, Research Assistants, and an Electronic Research Services Administrator, and will support the U.S. attorneys and staff with their legal and business information needs. The position reports to the Belfast Knowledge Management Program Supervisor.
Essential Functions
- Responds in an expeditious manner to document retrieval requests, including but not limited to primary law, articles, dockets, and litigation documents
- Establishes and maintains new case alerts and tracks for existing cases
- Fields questions from attorneys and staff and escalates issues when necessary to the Belfast Knowledge Management Program Supervisor and/or the U.S. Research Supervisor
- Communicates with U.S. courts, court runner services, and vendors
- Participates in Knowledge Management and Research Services team meetings (video conference)
- Keeps abreast of available research tools applicable to the position’s responsibilities; developments with current research tools; and developments in research concepts, techniques, and methods
- Maintains strict confidentiality of firm matters
- Uses resources in compliance with firm’s policies
- Models qualities and performance desired in firm employees, including attendance, professionalism, and quality work product
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree
- 3+ years of law firm library/research services experience preferred
- Experience using request management systems, government websites, and news and research platforms
- Working knowledge of Microsoft applications, including but not limited to Outlook and Teams
- Possesses excellent information management, interpersonal, and written and verbal communication skills
- Strong attention to both detail and accuracy
- Ability to work independently and efficiently under time constraints and be able to thrive within the firm’s highly dynamic environment
- Team player, customer service focused, and adept at multi-tasking and prioritization
- Initiative and problem-solving abilities
