The Paralegal – Intellectual Property will be responsible for providing support to the Firm’s Trade Mark practice. We have a high volume of trade mark and project work in a deadline driven environment. The successful applicant will have the ability to manage their own workload and time with support from the existing IP Paralegal team.

You will be working on rapidly developing portfolios that are worldwide and will need to have knowledge regarding the different requirements throughout the world. This will include managing requests from agents, organising documentary requirements for different jurisdictions, including powers of attorney, certificates, and having these notarised or legalised according to the country requirements. In addition, you will be supporting diverse trade mark searching and prosecution tasks, including providing, preparing and instructing trade mark applications in various countries, instructing and reporting on searches and renewals including liaising with clients and local agents. You will also need to be familiar with, and able to update, our trade marks database.

Responsibilities:

  • Technical trade mark formalities at UK IPO, EUIPO and WIPO, including pre-registration, prosecution, maintenance, renewal and post-registration steps, seeking guidance where required
  • Assisting with aspects of trade mark recordals, anti-counterfeiting and patent prosecution projects. Including producing schedules, communicating with internal stakeholders, arranging execution of documents
  • Assisting with matter status and budget monitoring, including preparing and reporting on status reports and trackers
  • Liaising with IPSU and Global teams to understand and follow correct procedures. Effective implementation and maintenance of established processes
  • Meet agreed service delivery standards and provide an accurate and good quality service
  • Keep manager and other colleagues informed in advance if deadlines and workload cannot be met
  • Always provide a proactive administrative service encompassing all key tasks
  • Understand and comply with all the Firm’s procedures and standards
  • Be helpful and supportive in team and client interactions and be regarded as a team player
  • Be aware of others’ workloads, offering to help when they are under pressure
  • Seek feedback on performance on a regular basis to enhance own development
  • Respond appropriately and promptly to feedback received and takes necessary action to implement

Skills and Experience:

Essential Criteria:

  • Law degree with 2.1 or above
  • Legal background with trade mark/renewals experience preferred
  • Have an intrinsic passion for trade mark work and a keenness to develop specialist trade mark knowledge and skills over time
  • Authorisation to work in the United Kingdom
  • A CITMA qualification would be an advantage
  • Meticulous with good attention to detail
  • Exceptional organisational skills
  • Have a clear and succinct writing style
  • Be comfortable working to and taking personal responsibility for managing tight deadlines work well as part of a team
  • Have good inter-personal skills, both verbally and in writing, whether dealing with colleagues, service providers or clients
  • Be pro-active and able to demonstrate initiative
