This role presents an exciting opportunity to join our dynamic Belfast Team, specialising in large loss claims. As a solicitor, you will play a crucial role in supporting the lead solicitor in handling complex, high-value High Court cases, encompassing both casualty and motor claims. Your responsibilities will include managing your caseload of claims valued between £100k-£250k, engaging with senior claims handlers, and contributing to activities that enhance the firms profile.
Key Accountabilities:
- Collaborate with the Lead Lawyer to manage a caseload of complex injury claims, including high-value multi-track and catastrophic injury claims.
- Handle individual claims valued between £100k-£250k, ensuring effective communication with sophisticated insurer clients.
- Conduct forensic analysis of quantum evidence, prepare chronologies, and identify anomalies across various sources of evidence.
- Utilize your expertise in complex injury symptomology to identify relevant issues within medical records and instruct medical experts.
- Draft concise technical advice on indemnity, liability, quantum, and causation issues for strategy discussions with the Lead Lawyer.
- Proactively identify next steps required, discuss aspects with the Lead Lawyer, and take agreed-upon actions.
- Interview witnesses, draft statements, and liaise with involved parties.
- Draft pleadings and applications, instruct counsel, and attend conferences, JSMs, and mediations.
- Attend court in person or by telephone, ensuring the delivery of agreed performance targets and quality standards.
- Delegate tasks to a Legal Assistant or Paralegal, fostering their development in technical ability and goal achievement.
- Maintain case management systems with up-to-date management information for clients.
- Ensure compliance with LSNI regulations.
Working Hours: 35 hours per week, Monday – Friday, 9 am – 5 pm with 1 unpaid hour for lunch. Primary location: Belfast Office.
Experience, Skills, and Qualifications:
- Qualified solicitor with experience in indemnity, liability, and quantum.
- Experience in cases involving complex medical issues is preferred.
- Critical thinking and quantum analysis skills.
- Good telephone advocacy skills.
- Positive, confident, and enthusiastic demeanor.
- Excellent listening, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Good advocacy skills and strong inter-personal and client care skills.
- Understanding of case law, litigation practice, Court Practice Rules, and proficiency in IT skills (Word, Excel, Office).
