New titles, new skills, same ‘can-do’ attitude.

It really is only when we stop and look back at the last two years, do we really appreciate the number and range of new financial services and fintech jobs that have arrived in Northern Ireland. The financial services sector is ever-changing, that is a given. What is perhaps less well-known is that the changes in this global market reach our corner of Europe. Jobs traditionally based in global financial centres like New York, London, Zurich, etc. are making their way to Belfast and Northern Ireland.
The continued growth of the established local market players in insurance, financial advisory, and banking, alongside the continued investment from global entities focused on back-office services, has made the financial sector the largest employment segment in the region. At present over 14,000 people work in this area, 11% of all employees. Much of the growth in employment numbers comes due to new jobs having arrived.
Nicky and Siobhan from the Abacus financial services team, took some time out to review some positions that have recently become more common requirements.
Digital Banking Specialist: A role focusing on optimizing and managing digital banking platforms and services to enhance customer experiences.
FinTech Analyst: A position involving the assessment and implementation of financial technology solutions for better efficiency and competitiveness.
Sustainable Finance Advisor: An expert in providing guidance on environmentally and socially responsible investment opportunities and practices.
Cybersecurity Analyst (within financial services): A role dedicated to safeguarding financial institutions from cyber threats and ensuring data security.
Data Privacy Officer: A position responsible for ensuring compliance with data protection regulations and implementing privacy policies within financial organizations.
Blockchain Developer/Consultant: A specialist in blockchain technology, assisting financial institutions in adopting distributed ledger solutions.
Customer Journey Mapping Specialist: An expert in analyzing and improving the customer journey and experience in financial services.
Regulatory Compliance Manager: (with a focus on digital assets): A role dedicated to ensuring compliance with regulations concerning cryptocurrencies and digital assets.
Client Services Accountant: A qualified Accountant that reports to fund managers on the performance of assets in the fund group.
The professionals that have built their careers within the sector locally are seeing their skills in high demand. Very few locally based professionals had explicit experience in these new areas initially. We have noticed the success that employers are achieving when hiring on the basis of desire and will. It is clear that the specific job requirements can be trained and developed.
If you are considering a change and want to fully understand your options, talk to a member of the Abacus team who will be happy to provide you with some guidance.
